While an extravagant celebration is part and parcel of a football match, footballer Xherdan Shaqiri tried to do one over-the-top celebration and failed miserably, making for a hilarious view for the audience. The former Liverpool and Stroke City player tried to jump and swing on the crossbar after failing to find the back of the net while playing for Lyon but after he missed to catch the bar with his jump, he ended up falling on the nets.

The 5 ft 7-inch player had successfully pulled off this act before but failed to do it on this occasion on Thursday night in the Europa League match between Lyon and Sparta League which Lyon ended up winning by 3-0. While Islam Slimani scored a brace for them in this match, Karl Toko Ekambi scored a stoppage-time goal to make it worse for Sparta League. While Shaqiri remained on the pitch for the entire duration of the match, his failed attempt at swinging on crossbar is going viral on the internet.

Earlier, reflecting on his stint with Liverpool, Shaqiri had said that he wanted to leave the club sooner. However, the important thing was that he is now at a better place in his career with Lyon.

"I wanted to leave Liverpool sooner," Shaqiri said in an interview with Watson earlier.

"But I wasn’t allowed to; the club wouldn’t let me go. The important thing for me is that I’m gone now. There were also offers from Spain and Italy," he added.

"I was in contact with him (Klopp) by phone before that. When the time came, he texted me. He wished me luck in that and said that I was a good player and a good guy," he further said.

"We never had any problems with each other, and we had a very good relationship. But I just wanted a new challenge, that’s normal in football. Jurgen helped me in this regard," he stated.
