The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to come to an end at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. It is a face-off between the Gujarat Titans and the Rajasthan Royals that will decide the winner of the cash-rich league and will get to lift the trophy. However, that is not all. The winning team also gets prize money each year and how much money will be given to the winning team and the runners-up have now been revealed in a report.

As per a senior BCCI official in an InsideSport report, the prize money will be the same as was awarded last year. Meanwhile, it is being learned that the same could be increased by up to 20-25 per cent for the next year's tournament, however, a final call regarding that is still not taken.

"That (increasing prize money) is currently under discussion. The prize money should be increased by 20-25% from next year. But the amount is not yet final. There should be a decision next year before the tournament", the said official was quoted in the report.

For now, though, the winning team is set to be awarded INR 20 crore. In addition, the runners-up will get INR 13 crore. The Royal Challengers Bangalore who finished third and lost the Qualifier 2 will get INR 7 crore and Lucknow Super Giants who finished fourth after losing the eliminator will be getting INR 6.6 crore.

Notably, the BCCI has decided to stick to the same prize money despite the sale of two new franchises and several sponsorship deals that amount to over 1000 crores alone. The official quoted the report has cited COVID-19 related additional costs as the main reason for not increasing the prize money as of now.

IPL 2022 final is set to commence at 8:00 pm IST on Sunday, May 29.
