Neeraj Chopra is the name on everyone's lips right now in India. There is no doubt that the athlete has done something extremely remarkable at Tokyo 2020 which will go down in the history of Indian sports as one of the most memorable moments ever. India had already secured 6 medals going into the final event for the nation - Men's Javelin Throw Finals.

The 23-year-old was one of the medal contenders for India and the 1.3 billion people were glued to their TV screens as the nation was on the cusp of a record-breaking tally of 7 medals in Olympics. However, it was never going to be an easy task for Neeraj as he was up against some of the top javelin throwers in the finals. When the finals kicked off at IST 4:30 PM onwards, little did anyone know that they were about to witness something extremely incredible in next few minutes.

Neeraj stuns everyone in Tokyo to clinch gold medal

The Indian athlete bettered his amazing 86.65m throw (which he set in qualification) to come up with a sensational 87.03m throw in his very first attempt of the finals. Although he had already impressed everyone, Neeraj literally stunned the whole world in his second attempt which went 87.58m far. It was enough for him to secure a historic gold medal for India by some margin and the whole country realized that what Neeraj did on Saturday was just unbelievable.

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi was quick to hail Neeraj Chopra for his heroics on Saturday. He praised the 23-year-old for his grit and passion that the athlete demonstrated in Tokyo. Mr. Narendra Modi tweeted, "History has been scripted at Tokyo! What @Neeraj_chopra1 has achieved today will be remembered forever. The young Neeraj has done exceptionally well. He played with remarkable passion and showed unparalleled grit. Congratulations to him for winning the Gold. #Tokyo2020"
