It is turning out to be a day to remember for the Indian weightlifters at the Commonwealth Games 2022. While India got their medals tally ticking with a silver medal from Sanket Sargar, Gururaja Poojary doubled India's joy when he bagged a bronze medal in the men's 61 kg weight class.

What made Poojary's achievement all the more praiseworthy was that he bettered his previous best by 3 Kgs under pressure to help India win their second medal in the quadrennial event this year. Unlike Sargar who was playing his first Commonwealth Games and bagged his maiden medal, this is not Poojary's first medal at these games as he has made the nation proud at this stage in the past.

Poojary reached his second medal by lifting 118kg in snatch before the personal best of 151 kg in clean and jerk to finish on the podium.
