Indian weightlifter Sanket Mahadev Sargar has won the first medal for India in the Commonwealth Games 2022. The 21-year-old weightlifter represented India in the 55 kg category and clinched the silver medal by lifting a total of 248 kg.
At the Khelo India University Games 2020, Sanket had set a new national record of 138 kg in clean and jerk lift to clinch the gold medal in the tournament and later created the new snatch national record of 113 kg in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in 2021 and won the gold medal in the competition which was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
