Indian boxer Sumit Kundu is one of the most promising athletes to secure a medal for India in the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. The 19-year-old boxer (75kg) will participate in the middleweight category.

Kundu lost his father during his early stages of his career, which forced him to leave boxing due to financial struggles. However, elders from his village supported him financially so that he can return to the ring and bring honors to the country.

Later in 2018, the boxer won gold at the National School Games and became the junior national champion in Mohali. He has also won a gold at the Khelo India Games in 2019.

The 75kg National champion, who played his second international boxing tournament at the 73rd Strandja Memorial Boxing tournament, defeated world championships silver medallist Dzhambulat Bizhamov in his opening match in the tournament.
