Sushila Devi Likmabam made headlines on Monday as she entered the final of Women’s Judo in the 48kg category. The Indian Judoka defeated Priscilla Morand in the semifinal to ensure a medal for the country. But this is not the first instance Sushila Devi will bring a medal for India in Judo. She has already won a silver medal in the same category at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The 27-year-old, who hails from Manipur, was taken to the Khuman Lampak in December 2002 by her uncle Likmabam Dinit. In Khuman, she started receiving training at a very young age. Sushila Devi joined Manipur Police in 2017. But before that, she had already won a CWG medal at the 2014 Glasgow games. Sushila was also the only representative from India in Judo at the Tokyo Olympics. Although she was knocked out after the first round itself, Devi went with high hopes.
