Notably, Australia suffered a series loss against India at home in December-January under the leadership of Paine.

Tim Paine bats for Steven Smith as Australia’s Test skipper

The 36-year-old Tim Paine received a lot of criticism after losing the 4-Test series 2-1 to India. However, he pointed out fingers on the Men in Blue for their reluctance to go to Brisbane for the final Test.

Amidst all this, the Australia skipper during his recent conversation with New Corp Media was quoted as saying, “I think Steve Smith deserves to be considered as Australia’s next captain”. The veteran cricketer is in full support to back Smith to takeover the captaincy duties.
