The fans witnessed something unbelievable during match no. 22 of IPL 2021 in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. After action-packed first innings, where Royal Challengers Bangalore set up a competitive total of 171 runs on board, there was a delay at the beginning of the second innings. While all the players were ready to go out on the field, the action could not be resumed because of an unexpected sandstorm in Ahmedabad.
Sandstorm in Ahmedabad
The umpires were finding it hard to even stand on the field as they were evaluating the situation. On the other hand, the players were also covering themselves with towels and masks to protect themselves from the sand. This is how dramatic the situation became as on-air commentator Harsha Bhogle explained, “It has been an extraordinary sandstorm that has come out of nowhere. You are looking up, it looked fine. You look down, you look up again and you couldn’t see. It’s quite miraculous where this sandstorm has come from. It’s quite a spectacle this and as a result, visibility is very low.” The 59-year-old also funnily added that it is the second storm after AB de Villiers produced one during the first innings where he blistering unbeaten knock of 75 runs off 42 deliveries.

The contest finally resumed after a 15-20 minutes delay as the situation improved. However, Twitterati were really astonished after seeing the series of events at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While some fans visualized that Prithvi Shaw will finally unleash his inner-Sachin in the sandstorm, the others pointed out the impact of the storm on the dew, which could go in favour of Virat Kohli’s side.
