Preview

India have continued their dominance in the white-ball format as after thrashing England 2-1, the Men in Blue have taken a 1-0 lead against the West Indies. The Shikhar Dhawan-led team won the first ODI by three runs to prolong the hosts’ barren run in ODI cricket. However, the Nicholas Pooran-led put up a fight till the last ball which was a much-improved performance for them as compared to their ODIs against Bangladesh. Now, they will look to bring a long-awaited win for the Windies when the two teams meet on Sunday.

Pitch Report

With even bounce, fast outfield, and small boundaries, the Queen Park Oval pitch is a paradise for the batters, as reflected in the first ODI. However, bowlers also get their bit with pacers enjoying the swing in the initial part of an inning and spinners exploiting the slowness in the middle overs.

Team Analysis

India

Even without its top players, India put on a brilliant batting performance led by captain Shikhar Dhawan. The southpaw made a remarkable comeback after consecutive failures in England to score a well-paced 97. Dhawan was also chosen as the player of the match for his performance. Others including Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer also stepped up. India lacked potency in bowling, especially in the middle overs. Nonetheless, Yuzvendra Chahal once again did decent to pick two wickets. With a win in their bag, Team India will refrain from making changes to the eleven unless there is an injury.

West Indies

West Indies buried the horrors of the Bangladesh series and put on a brilliant fight in the first ODI with the bat. The bowlers also did a good job of stopping India within 310. Kyle Mayers, Shamarh Brooks, Brandon King, and Nicholas Pooran showed grit and determination to keep India in check throughout the match. Akeal Hosein and Romario Shepherd also stayed till the end to keep West Indies alive. The skipper also looked satisfied with his team’s performance and they will look to emulate the same in the second ODI.

Match Prediction

Conclusion

West Indies might have found their rhythm but they still lack players who can bail them out of pressure situations. Meanwhile, India have enough match winners to help them win the second ODI as well.
