While motorsports fans are gearing up for Miami GP in the United States of America, and driver’s market season is yet to start, speculations have been around of Oscar Piastri being the next premium driver for Williams, replacing Latifi. The 2021 F2 champion is currently spending the season as Alpine’s reserve driver, and if former Williams driver Ralf Schumacher is to be believed, Latifi may be dropped by the team due to his poor results.

Notably, Latifi’s F1 stint has been below par since his debut in the sport in 2020. The Williams driver has only earned just seven points in two years as he spent most of that time in the shadow of then-teammate George Russell and then followed by on-track incidents. Recently, Latifi was in the news for his incidents on track rather than racing. At the 2021 season finale, his error kickstarted a controversy on the other side of the grid. The 2022 performances have been too surrounded by too many mistakes and incidents plaguing his performance.

Speaking of Latifi’s future with Williams, former Williams driver Ralf Schumacher has said, “Investors at Williams prefer a strong driver who can be more consistent and bring in better results. The team is eyeing at Piastri as a potential replacement.” Even Kravitz during his post-race Ted’s Notebook show at Imola revealed that Alpine could load Piastri to Williams next season.

“One of the latest paddock rumours has Williams interested in the services of Oscar Piastri,” Kravitz said. Spanish journalist also stamped the rumours by saying, “I am not surprised by those who leave, but I am surprised by those who arrive. Well, it is a change of drivers between teams.”

Although he wasn’t allowed to take names, his hint was very well undetectable, looking at ongoing developments in motorsports. Regarding Oscar, Alpine currently has Esteban Ocon until the end of 2024, and Fernando Alonso has insisted that he wants to race for two to three years more. Seeing this, it’s unlikely that Oscar will feature at Alpine soon. Williams has a great opportunity to rope in another young talent to their driver’s line-up.
