India created history on Thursday as they became the first-ever Asian side to defeat South Africa in Centurion, breaching their fortress. After KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal set the platform with their solid batting display on Day 1, the bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, completed the remaining task.

It was undoubtedly a historic occasion as wishes poured in for Team India from across the globe. The incredible journey of Virat Kohli and Co. began way back in 2018 in South Africa itself and now life has taken a full circle for this group of players as they dominated the Proteas in some style at SuperSport Park.

Former national team coach reacts on India’s historic win

And now, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri – under whose leadership India became a dominant force in Test cricket – was undoubtedly a delighted man. The 59-year-old congratulated Kohli, Dravid and Co. for adding another feather in side’s quest to conquer the globe in 5-day cricket.

He tweeted, “Wohoo Brisbane, Oval, Lord’s and now Centurion…Congratulations @imVkohli, Rahul Dravid and the entire contingent on becoming the first Asian nation to win at Centurion #BoxingDayTest #TeamIndia”

Ravi Shastri has a suggestion for India’s management going forward

Despite stepping down from his role, Ravi Shastri has been quite vocal about his suggestions for Team India going forward. After revealing few days back that he did not have much role in team selection during his tenure, the 59-year-old opined that things should change going forward.

“I think it is extremely important that the captain and the coach should have a say in team selection. I think going forward, both should officially have a say. Especially if the coach is experienced enough like I was and now how Rahul (Dravid) is,” said Shastri on Bold and Brave – The Shastri Way show on Star Sports.
