The fourth edition of the Women's T20 Challenge is all set to kick start on Monday (May 23) at MCA Stadium in Pune. The current edition will be played between three teams led by India's star batter Smriti Mandhana, all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma. The edition will witness four exciting games, which will comprise three league stage games and a summit clash between qualifying teams.
The highly-competitive tournament will feel the absence of Indian legends like Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami, as both are not part of the competition. While dynamic batter Smriti Mandhana will lead defending champions Trailbazars, Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma have been trusted with the responsibility to lead Supernovas and Velocity, respectively.
Twelve overseas players from Australia, England, West Indies, and South Africa will grace the tournament with their presence. Supernovas emerged as champions in the first two seasons of the tournament's history, but Trailblazers stunned them in the third edition and lifted the title. Velocity will hope to do well in the current edition and etch their name as champions.
The fourth edition, which was supposed to take place last year, got cancelled due to pandemic and hence, later rescheduled for 2022. Notably, the fourth edition will be the tournament's final edition as BCCI is set to start Women's IPL next year.
