Preview: The opening game of the Super 12 will see Australia locking horns with South Africa on 23rd October 2021, with both teams eyeing their maiden T20 World Cup title. The Aussies have had a tough time of late in the shortest format of the game, having lost to West Indies and Bangladesh earlier this year. On the other hand, the Proteas look confident having won T20I series against Ireland, Sri Lanka and West Indies ahead of the T20 World Cup.
Nonetheless, given there are T20 specialists in both the sides, the stage is set for some exciting cricketing action to kick-start the Super 12 of ICC T20 World Cup.
Analysis: Temba Bavuma and Co. look confident given their current form in the shortest format of the game, having won the two warm up games. Wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram are the top batting picks from the side, alongside Rassie van der Dussen who scored a phenomenal century against Afghanistan in the warm-up game. Needless to say, the Proteas’ bowling line up looks one of the strongest in the tournament with Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje being the key bowlers, alongside Tabraiz Shamsi.
The Australian side might not be in their best form, but will aim to be at par with the Proteas, in order to take an early lead in the tournament. Given the current form of the players and batting woes, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell would be the top pick from the side and is an excellent captain choice. Additionally, Mitchell Marsh and Pat Cummins could fetch some points from their respective departments and be a boost in one’s fantasy team.
