Would have quit captaincy had an analyst been sending codes to me like in KKR Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir is one of Kolkata Knight Riders' most successful captains. The former India opener has led the franchise to two IPL titles, which is all they have won to date. However, the left-handed opener is not on the same page as his former team as far as their current ploy is concerned.

The KKR team analyst could be seen sending out codes for captain Eoin Morgan from dugout after which the skipper decides what changes to do based on the inputs from the analyst. It is this way of running a team that hasn't gone down too well with Gambhir. Discussing the ongoing IPL 2021 match between KKR and Chennai Super Kings on a live broadcast with another former KKR player Aakash Chopra, Gambhir said that he would have left the captaincy of the team had he been offered to lead in such a setup.

His answer came in response to a question posed to him from Chopra regarding his take on the analyst and what he would have done if he was given such an analyst. Gambhir, who is a Member of Parliament from East Delhi, was quick to add that Chopra would have done the same had he been in Morgan's shoes.

KKR roped in Nathan Leamon ahead of 2021 season

Notably, prior to the 2021 season, the franchise had roped in England cricket team's analyst Nathan Leamon in their ranks while also having other big names in their squad like AR Srikkanth. A possible reason behind bringing in Leamon could be his bond with Morgan. The duo has been working together for quite some time now with the England team and the results are there for everyone to see.

While England have become the world champions and are also one of the major contenders for the T20 World Cup, even KKR registered wins in both their last matches. Leamon could often be spotted putting some numbers in bold on a pad and display it in a way it is visible to the captain. While this was earlier seen only for the England team, the codes were visible again during the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.
