India wicket-keeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha has signed for Tripura cricket team as player-cum-mentor for the 2022-23 domestic season on Friday. After playing for the team for over 15 years, Saha has ended his association with Bengal cricket.

The veteran wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, who is expected to lead the side, signed the contract in the state’s capital in the attendance of Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) officials.

The decision to part ways with Bengal cricket came after Wriddhiman Saha felt hurt by a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official, who has doubted his commitment to the team. The cricketer became free agent late last month after he was handed the no-objection certificate by the CAB.

Talking about the Indian wicketkeeper’s induction to the team, TCA joint secretary Kishore Das told the news agency PTI, “We have had talks with Wriddhiman Saha and he has agreed to play for the state. He will also act as a mentor for the senior team to motivate the players.”

On his addition to the team, Wriddhiman Saha said, “I want to contribute to Tripura’s success and ensure they do well. And in terms of the team goal, our aim will be to build on the success that Tripura enjoyed in domestic cricket in the recent past and build on it.”

In first-class cricket, Wriddhiman Saha has amassed 6423 runs at an average of 41.98 after playing 122 matches. Recently, the 37-year-old cricketer has won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title with Gujarat Titans in the franchise’s debut season.
