Monday brought joy for Indians as their athletes at the Tokyo Paralympics kept winning medals. From Javelin throw to Discus throw, the results kept coming in India's favour and India has already surpassed their best medal tally by winning six medals at the Tokyo Paralympics. Yogesh Kathuniya won a silver medal in the Discus throw (F56) event. The Paralympian threw the season's best 44.38 metres in his sixth and final attempt which helped him win a silver medal.

The 24-year-old was so delighted at his achievement that he couldn't control his emotions when he was asked about his feelings. Yogesh started with a normal tone saying that he is feeling really good to have won a medal. The reporter then asked him to say it louder to which he responded, “I am feeling really good that I have won a silver medal. It was my debut and to win on debut makes it super special”.

When asked about the challenges he faced and whom he would like to thank, he said, “I made fouls and despite that, I won the medal. I would like to thank SAI, PCI (Paralympic Committee of India), and especially my mother who always supported me”.

The Indian Prime Minister acknowledged Yogesh's achievement and hailed him for his outstanding performance. “Outstanding performance by Yogesh Kathuria. Delighted that he brings home the Silver medal. His exemplary success will motivate budding athletes. Congrats to him. Wishing him the very best for his future endeavours,” Narendra Modi tweeted.

Yogesh Kathuniya only took up para-sports in 2017 after he was motivated by his college students' union general secretary Sachin Yadav. Yogesh worked hard after taking the discus throw and the results followed. He finished fourth in the 2017 Asian para games. He broke the world record in the men's discus throw and men's javelin throw F36 category and won the gold medal at para-athletics Grand Prix in Berlin. And now, he has won a silver medal on his Paralympics debut. His mother, Meena Devi, says that this silver medal is equivalent to a gold medal. “Today, my happiness knows no limits,” she added.
