It is often said that cricket is a very funny game. What goes around, comes around! A perfect example of the same was at display during the ongoing 2nd Test between West Indies and Sri Lanka at Galle on Tuesday. After a fantastic start for Sri Lanka, the visitors bounced back on Day 2 as a couple of quick wickets put the home side in a slight state of trouble with the score reading 152/3.

This is when Dhananjaya de Silva walked out to bat, with West Indies on top of the game. They were certainly enjoying that phase of the day and were leaving no stone unturned to put the pressure on the opposition. And it was the perfect time for a slight banter!

As soon as Joshua da Silva looked at the new batsman, he remembered that Sri Lanka’s de Silva had taken a brilliant catch to send the West Indies batsman back to the pavilion in the 1st Test. The moment had ended Joshua da Silva’s brilliant innings and had opened the doors for the home side to clinch the victory.

New rivalry in cricket – da Silva vs de Silva

On Tuesday, when Dhananjay de Silva came at the crease, Joshua da Silva made a hilarious remark stating, “You catch me, I catch you – that’s how it works in cricket.” The right-handed batsman did not really look interested to engage in the banter as he looked quite focused in the middle.

Unfortunately for him, the Sri Lankan edged the second delivery of his innings off the bowling of Veerasammy Permaul. To add to his misery, the ball went to wicketkeeper Joshua da Silva who failed to grasp the ball in the first attempt but kept his concentration to catch it brilliantly on the second attempt, ultimately completing his revenge which he had promised a few moments earlier.

Just like the moment in the 1st Test, the rivalry between the duo proved to be quite a key factor as de Silva’s wicket led to a batting collapse with Sri Lanka getting bowled out on 204. In reply, West Indies got off to a good start as their score read 69/1 before stumps were called on Day 2.
