While football matches and rivalries can sometimes get extremely intense and heated up, in a rather remarkable gesture, Liverpool fans at Anfield decided to momentarily shrug off all things aside as they extended their support to the rival team Manchester United's star forward Cristiano Ronaldo. Their action comes after Ronaldo announced the death of his newborn son and wasn't playing due to the same reason.

However, the Reds fans started singing the Liverpool song "You will never walk alone" and applauded during the seventh minute of the match, a reference to the star footballer's jersey number. Several videos from the incident have made it to social media.

Later, Ronaldo's family also thanked Liverpool fans for their support. Ronaldo’s Madeira-based sister Elma wrote on social media: "Thank you for this Liverpool. We will never forget what you did today." Sibling Katia also wrote: "Way beyond football" from her home in Brazil.

Notably, Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodríguez had shared an emotional post on social media to announce the news.

"It is with the deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away," said the message.

"It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness," it added.

"We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time," the message further said.

"Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."
