The monsoon has set in different parts of India and has brought immense relief. The temperature has gone down and people are joyous about it. But monsoon comes with many health challenges as well. There are more spread of virus and bacteria in the surroundings during monsoon and anyone can easily catch them. So, it is better to take precautions rather than search for a cure.

Here are five tips that can help you stay healthy during the rainy season.

1. Increase your intake of Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an essential component to boost immunity. As monsoon season is the perfect time for virus and bacteria to thrive, it is better to keep your body ready for such attacks from invisible enemies. One of the easiest ways of doing that is increasing your Vitamin C intake. Eat sprouts, fresh green vegetables and oranges to have a Vitamin C-rich diet.

2. Avoid junk food

Everyone loves to enjoy street foods. But little do people know that these foods can bring dangerous virus with themselves and can eventually lead to serious illness. During the monsoon season, roads are filled with mud and water which become home to many microorganisms. And the foods sold on roadside stalls can have those dangerous virus too. So, in order to stay healthy, it is better to stay away from street food.

3. Destroy breeding grounds for mosquitoes

Rainy seasons also bring a major challenge, the breeding of mosquitoes. With water pouring from the sky, it can get collected in open areas and become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. These nasty insects can then become a source of many severe diseases like malaria and dengue. So, it is better to destroy any breeding ground for mosquitoes. Ensure that the water at your home is always in covered pots and vessels, there are no clogged drains, and there’s no rainwater held stagnant in your nearby areas.

4. Maintain hygiene

Although monsoon brings a lot of relief with it, it also poses a threat to your hygiene. There is always a chance that every time you walk out for some work, you return with some bacteria stuck either in your shoes, your clothes, or in your hands. As this is unavoidable, it is better to clean yourself as soon as you walk back inside your house. Clean your shoes from time to time, never leave your damp clothes on bed, and wash your hand frequently.

5. Exercise regularly

Monsoon should not become a hurdle in your fitness regime. While it may become difficult to go to the gym every day, it is not so tough to exercise regularly. There are many ways you can work out at your residence even with no or little equipment. Yoga can also be a great alternative during monsoon. Exercising not only helps you lose weight or stay in shape, but it is also great for your immunity. It gets your heart racing, improves blood circulation, and triggers serotonin (happiness hormone) production, all of which fortify your immune system against viruses and bacteria.
