Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is back in the spotlight after posting an intriguing encrypted message on social media, igniting fresh discussions about his potential debut for India. The 15-year-old batter shared a simple yet captivating "New chapter" on Instagram, which has led many to speculate that his long-awaited moment might finally arrive during the second T20I against England.
After sitting on the sidelines for three matches during the UK tour, it seems that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could finally get his chance to step onto the field in the 2nd T20I against England this Saturday. India kicked off their tour with two T20Is against Ireland before heading to England for a five-match T20I series, where the young talent is still eagerly awaiting his first international cap.
His Instagram story quickly caught the eye of fans, who eagerly connected it to the possibility of his debut for India. The left-handed opener received his first national call-up following an impressive IPL season, where his bold batting style made him one of the standout young stars in Indian cricket. Since then, the anticipation surrounding his debut has only continued to build.
BCCI and Indian Management Backs Experience Rather Than Change
Even though there's a lot of buzz around giving Sooryavanshi his debut, the Indian team management has decided to stick with the tried-and-true top order. Bowling coach Morne Morkel emphasized that, "I think we need to respect the fact that we had our No. 1 batter in T20 cricket, Abhishek Sharma. Sanju was the player of the World Cup."
He highlighted Abhishek Sharma's impressive standing in T20 cricket and Sanju Samson's key role in India's successful T20 World Cup run, noting that the coaching staff believes in supporting players who have already proven themselves. Morkel also mentioned that showing faith in these established players sends a strong, positive message to the entire squad. At the same time, he recognized that Sooryavanshi has been making waves in training and is ready to step in whenever the opportunity arises.
This patient strategy has found backing from BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, who praised Sooryavanshi as a highly talented player and assured that his moment will come at the right time. He also made it clear that the final call lies with the team management. Meanwhile, all eyes are now on the upcoming matches in the England series.
The first T20I in Durham was called off, but the second match is set to take place at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on July 4, followed by games at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on July 7, Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol on July 9, and wrapping up with the final T20I at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton on July 11. The question of whether Sooryavanshi will finally don the India cap remains one of the hottest topics of discussion in the series.
