India Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will lead Mumbai in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Team India opener Prithvi Shaw has been named as vice-captain of the team while Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been named in the 20-member squad. Mumbai will lock horns against Karnataka in their first match of the tournament on November 4. Mumbai will play its league matches in Guwahati.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced the squad on Monday, picked by the committee which was headed by former India pacer Salil Ankola. Mumbai head coach Amol Muzumdar revealed on Twitter that the Mumbai team had a session with former hockey captain and Olympian Viren Rasquinha on Monday, where he spoke about the success stories of India's successful Olympians.

Sarfaraz Khan, Aditya Tare, Shivam Dube, Shams Mulani, Siddhesh Lad, Tushar Deshpande and Dhaval Kulkarni are the other notable inclusions in the Mumbai squad.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) said in an official release, "The Senior Selection Committee of Mumbai Cricket Association consisting of Mr. Salil Ankola (Chairman), Mr. Gulam Parkar, Mr. Sunil More, Mr. Prasad Desai and Mr. Anand Yalvigi has selected the following players to represent Mumbai in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy to be played from 4th November 2021 at Guwahati."

Notably, Tamil Nadu are the defending champions of the tournament, having beaten Baroda in the final of the 2020-21 edition earlier this year. Several players will look to make an impact with their performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022, with an eye on the upcoming mega auction for IPL 2022.
