It's been a week already at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. While there have been a few surprises, some results have been along expected lines. Will Day 8 of the competition be full of surprises or will the known champions find a way to do what they have done in the past which is win under pressure?
Here are some medal and result predictions for Day 8 of CWG 2022.
1. PV Sindhu to qualify for quarterfinals
After India missed out on a gold medal in the mixed team event, the focus now shifts to the single's event. India's biggest hope of a gold medal PV Sindhu will start her preliminary matches on Wednesday, however, one can easily take a leap of faith and say that she will win her Round of 16 match on August 5 and secure a berth in the quarterfinal of the competition. Even in the men's singles categories, India are likely to come back with medals with Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen participating in the event.
2. Tom Walsh to bag a medal in men's shot put final
In the men's shot put final, follow Tom Walsh and his quest to win the gold at the Commonwealth Games 2022. He has already done that before but is aiming to repeat that feat once again in Birmingham on August 5. While he won the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, he finished fourth at the World Athletics Championships. He has gone on record saying that he is working towards being "not touchable" if he has a good day at CWG 2022.
3. Bajrang Punia to win a medal for India
Day 8th of the Commonwealth Games will witness the first glimpse of the wrestlers of India. India is hoping for a lot of medals in wrestling and Bajrang Punia will perhaps be one of the biggest along with Ravi Dahiya. So expecting Bajrang to ease through to the finals and help India to win a medal. Hopefully, Bajrang will give another opportunity to all those who can to stand up in respect for the Indian national anthem. Bajrang will compete in the men's freestyle wrestling 65 kg category.
4. Anderson Peters to dominate men's javelin throw qualification
One man's loss is another man's gain they say. At this stage, Neeraj Chopra's biggest competition was Grenadian Anderson Peters. However, with Chopra having to pull out due to an injury, Peters is set to boss in the javelin throw qualification and eventually finish on the podium in the final. However, the two share a friendly relationship and Peters was among the first ones to wish Chopra well post the Indian star's decision to opt-out of CWG 2022.
