Indian opener Abhishek Sharma delivered a memorable performance in the second T20I between India and Zimbabwe on Saturday at the Harare Sports Club. However, his heroics came not with the bat but with the ball, as he wrapped up Zimbabwe's lower order during their run chase. The left-arm spinner starred late in the innings, claiming three wickets in 2.5 overs while conceding just 17 runs. This is also his best bowling performance in T20I cricket.
He dismissed Brad Evans for 19, clean bowled Newman Nyamhuri for 3, and removed Richard Ngarava for 1 and picked up a wicket in each of his three overs and finished the innings by claiming the final wicket of Ngarava. With this, he became the first Indian opener to take a 3-for in a men's T20I. The last Indian opener to take a three-for in any men's international was Virender Sehwag against Australia in 2012.
Abhishek registered his maiden three-wicket haul in T20Is, surpassing his previous best figures of 2/3 in India colours. Across 55 T20Is (20 innings), he has now claimed 10 wickets at an average of 25.60, while maintaining an economy rate of 8.43. Overall, the all-rounder has picked up 58 wickets from 205 T20 matches (99 innings).
Shreyas Iyer registers first T20I series win as India captain
India put on a dominant display to defeat Zimbabwe by 90 runs in the second T20I at the Harare Sports Club and clinched an emphatic victory that gave the Men in Blue an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series and marked Shreyas Iyer's first T20I series win as India's captain.
After being asked to bat first, India posted an imposing 219/5 in their 20 overs. Ishan Kishan led the charge with a fluent 81, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 60 to guide the visitors past the 200-run mark. The pair ensured India capitalized on a solid platform and left Zimbabwe with a daunting target of 220.
In reply, Zimbabwe struggled to keep pace with the required run rate as India's bowlers kept them under constant pressure. Debutant Yash Thakur enjoyed a memorable outing by dismissing Brian Bennett for his maiden T20I wicket, while Prince Yadav claimed two wickets before leaving the field with a hamstring injury. Abhishek Sharma then starred with the ball, picking up three wickets as India bowled Zimbabwe out for 129 to wrap up a comprehensive win with one game to spare.
