The franchise was hoping to build a formidable team for the upcoming seasons and was in search of someone to lead the team after Virat’s stepped down from captaincy. After retaining Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj, they had a purse of 57 crores left for the auction. With comparatively high purse remaining, they were able to bid more for players compared to other teams like MI and CSK.
