Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers came up with a suggestion for Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav due to his poor form in recent times. The Proteas legend called out Suryakumar’s weakness against slower deliveries and asked him to change his mindset. Notably, Suryakumar hasn’t been in good touch in the T20I format in recent times as he could only amass 100 runs in 11 innings this year at an average of 11.11.

Although the Indian team is looking unstoppable in the shorter format recently, Suryakumar Yadav’s form has raised concern ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup at home. Looking at his recent form, Ab de Villiers called out recent struggles of India’’s T20I skipper and came up with suggestions for him to get his form back.

"I wouldn't say it's a weakness but when you start getting out to the same delivery over and over again, you've to tweak a couple of things in your technique and more so your mindset than anything else. It's just a matter of him seeing it as an opportunity, he picks up it's a slower ball and he wants more than just one or two runs,” De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.

Suryakumar maybe a little bit overly greedy: AB de Villiers

Suryakumar Yadav is known for his fancy shots and big hits that made him successful as a batter in the T20I format. However, in recent times, Suryakumar hasn’t been able to convert his good starts into a big score. Speaking further in his YouTube channel, Ab de Villiers suggested Suryakumar to find the gaps and look for singles or doubles rather than just going for a big hit in every second ball.

"He (Suryakumar) maybe a little bit overly greedy and that's maybe just a mindset tweak. I wouldn't be too concerned about it but it's a personal thing for him to figure out. Find spaces in the field and make sure you get two. Maybe keep it on the floor and try to get a four instead of big sixes," De Villiers said.
