The hosts, Australia came out victorious against India in the first ODI of a three-match series at Optus Stadium in Perth, defeating India by seven wickets to take a 1-0 lead. Batting first in an rain-affected encounter, India managed to get 136 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 26 overs. After that, the Aussies were given a target of 131 runs due to DLS method and the hosts chased the target easily in 21.1 overs with seven wickets in hand.
Coming to bat first after losing the toss, India didn’t get the start they wanted as Rohit Sharma (8 off 14) lost his wicket against Josh Hazlewood in the fourth over. After a few overs, Virat Kohli went for an eight-ball duck against Mitchell Starc as India were reduced to 21/2 in 6.1 overs. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer also couldn't do much as India lost four wickets for 45 runs in 13.2 overs. After that, KL Rahul and Axar Patel added 39 runs for the fifth wicket.
Mitchell Marsh's captain's knock guides Australia to convincing win over India
Axar Patel got out after scoring 31 runs off 28 balls, hitting three boundaries, while KL Rahul scored 38 runs off 31 balls hitting two fours and two sixes. After that, Nitish Kumar Reddy gave finishing touches with his unbeaten 19*(11) runs as India crossed the 130-run mark. For Australia, Mitchell Owen, Josh Hazlewood and Matthew Kuhnemann took two wickets each, while Mitchell Starc and Nathan Ellis scalped a wicket each.
Chasing the winning target, Australia lost their two wickets for 44 runs in 7.5 overs. After that, skipper Mitchell Marsh and Josh Philippe added 55 runs for the third wicket. Philippe got out after scoring 37 runs off 29 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes, while Marsh remained unbeaten on 46*(52) runs hitting two fours and three sixes as Australia chased the target in 21.1 overs losing three wickets.
