Ex-Australia opener David Warner believes that star batter Virat Kohli has everything to serve Team India in the ODI World Cup 2027. Following the flop shows in the initial two ODIs, Kohli faced massive criticism. In the third ODI played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Kohli answered his critics with his unbeaten 74-run innings off 81 balls. The knock brought cheers to the faces of Kohli fans. Warner, who witnessed Kohli’s extraordinary performance in Sydney, feels that the 38-year-old’s exceptional level of fitness and work ethics can help him play the marquee ODI event in 2027.
Speaking to Fox Sports, David Warner also said that he has no qualms regarding Kohli’s zeal for training and competitiveness. “I think that’s a question only Virat can answer. If you still have the hunger and desire to keep playing, and your mindset is right, there’s no reason why he can’t feature in 2027. He’s one of the fittest guys in the game, a great father and husband, and his discipline is unmatched. The only question is whether he still has the same passion to train and compete — and I wouldn’t doubt that for a second,” remarked World 2015 and 2023 champion.
Ravi Shastri feels Virat Kohli’s mental drive will be deciding factor for ODI World Cup 2027
Ex-India coach Ravi Shastri also backed Virat Kohli for the ODI World Cup 2027, hailing the 38-year-old’s discipline and fitness regimen. Shastri said, Kohli’s mental drive will play a crucial factor for his participation in the World Cup 2027. “He’ll take it one series at a time and see where he stands mentally. If the hunger remains, he’ll carry on,” said Shastri.
Kohli couldn’t make the Australia series massive for himself but he will be expected to be effective with his bat in the upcoming three-match T20I series in South Africa. The opening ODI will be played on November 30.
