A day after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming Men’s Asia Cup 2025, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday, August 20 announced the updated rankings in the 50-over format. Star South Africa spinner and veteran of the game, Keshav Maharaj rose to the No. 1 rankings in the bowling department, Shubman Gill continued to lead the charts among the batters.

But in a notable move, Team India’s ODI captain - Rohit Sharma, who last week rose to number two spot, displacing Pakistan’s Babar Azam, was no where to be seen. The star India batter, who has stood out in the ODI format, was snubbed of a place. While Rohit Sharma wasn’t the only one as former India skipper and batting stalwart Virat Kohli was also snubbed from the list.

However, there remains no clarity on the same, cricket fans were left baffled and have taken to social media seeing the same. While some have claimed it to be a technical discrepancy at ICC’s disposal, a few others have hinted that the senior duo might be retiring from the format.

Speaking of the ODI Rankings, in the batting department, Shubman Gill rules the charts at No. 1 place with a rating of 784. He is followed by Pakistan’s Babar Azam (739), New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell (720), Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka (719) and Ireland’s Harry Tector (708) - completing the top five. From India, Shreyas Iyer sits at sixth place with 704 rating, KL Rahul is at 13 th place with 638 rating.
