Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President N Srinivasan has returned to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as their new chairman. He has returned to the franchise after 12 years. The 80-year-old played a vital role in the formation of CSK. Before 2008, BCCI’s clause 6.2.4 proscribed administrators from displaying commercial interest in matches conducted by the board. However, following IPL 2008, a reform was introduced which allowed Srinivasan to possess the CSK franchise. In 2013, the spot-fixing controversy struck IPL and Srinivasan’s son-in law Gurunath Meiyappan got apprehended for his involvement in the betting gate.
Srinivasan, who was the BCCI President then, was instructed to hold only one position as his dual role created a conflict of interest. Srinivasan followed the court’s order and resigned from his role in Super Kings. After more than a decade, Srinivasan has now made a comeback in CSK and discussing his return with PTI, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan showed faith in his administrative prowess. "See, it's a great boon for CSK and he's been the best administrator for us and I'm very happy that he's come back into CSK. He'll be in an advisory role only because he doesn't travel much, but we'll be in contact with him," said Viswanathan in his chat with PTI.
N Srinivasan expected to lift up CSK following disappointing IPL 2025 season
N Srinivasan will be expected to rebuild CSK, who looked miserable in IPL 2025. This year, the Yellow Army produced their worst-ever performance of their league history and concluded their campaign at the bottom of the points tally with just four wins and 10 losses.
Taking reins in his hands, he will be expected to perform some crucial modifications to extract desired results in IPL 2026. In the last few years, league cricket has changed a lot and CSK have other sister teams such as Joburg Super Kings in SA20 League and Texas Super Kings in the Major League Cricket (MLC). Srinivasan will look after these teams as well.
