Ajinkya Rahane wants star Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah and young left-handed speedster Arshdeep Singh to play together in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 to begin on September 9. Rahane believes that the Punjab Kings (PBKS) quick has the potential to deliver effective numbers to the Men in Blue in the upcoming continental event. The 37-year-old believes banking entirely on Bumrah isn’t good for Team India so the team management should prepare Arshdeep, who can do wonders with the ball.
Rahane also highlighted Arshdeep’s ability to hoodwink batters by swinging the ball both ways. “I am excited to see Arshdeep Singh bowling with (Jasprit) Bumrah. We all know his ability, his skill work. He can swing the ball both ways but also he can bowl those yorkers with the new ball and that’s a very good skill to have. You don’t want to depend every time on Bumrah or any other bowler. Arshdeep can bowl those yorkers, straight yorkers, wide yorkers. As I said earlier also, he can bluff the batsman. he has the slower ball and He has the ability to pick up wickets,” remarked Rahane on his YouTube channel.
Bumrah-Arshdeep duo performed exceptionally in T20 World Cup 2024
In 2024, when Team India won their second T20 World Cup title under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, both Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep made crucial contributions with the ball. Arshdeep got 17 wickets in eight matches at a frugal economy of 7.16, while Bumrah scalped 15 wickets in eight contests at a thrifty economy of 4.17.
This year, Arshdeep Singh has played three T20 Internationals (T20I) for India, in which he bagged four wickets at a frugal economy of 7.88. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, he was the most effective bowler for Punjab, picking up 21 wickets in 17 outings.
