There has been a lot of debate after the BCCI announced the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 via Press conference in Mumbai on August 19. Although there have been several players who proved their worth in the T20I format, there are also some key players who showed great form in recent times but were still ignored by the selector ahead of the upcoming tournament. One of the names among fans after the Asia Cup 2025 squad announcement is of Shreyas Iyer.
The star right-handed batsman has been a key performer for India in multinational tournaments in the last couple of years. He also proved his worth in the T20s with his performance as captain of Punjab Kings in IPL 2025. Iyer amassed 604 runs from 17 matches in IPL 2025 at a strike rate of 175.07. Despite this, he didn’t get a place in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2025. Reacting to this, former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin slammed the selectors for Iyer’s snub from the squad.
Iyer won the Champions Trophy and gave it to you: R. Ashwin
Talking about India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025, R. Ashwin questioned the omission of Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal from the 15-men line-up. Although Jaiswal has been picked as a reserve player but Iyer hasn’t been in the scheme of things for the T20Is.
"Selection is a thankless job. You have to let someone out. When you talk to them, you have to go through that sadness and disappointment in their faces. I hope, someone has talked to Shreyas and Jaiswal," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel Ash ki Baat.
"When you have Jaiswal as your third opener, you have brought Shubman Gill in the team by removing a person from the World Cup winning squad. I mean, I am happy for Shubman but I am very, very sad for both Shreyas and Jaiswal. It's just not fair on both," he further added.
