As the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 progresses with each passing day, in match number nine of the tournament, defending champions and the most successful side in the competition, Australia Women are taking on Pakistan Women at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday, October 8. While the defending champions saw their match against Sri Lanka Women get washed out due to rain, they began their campaign with a win over New Zealand Women.
On the other hand, Fatima Sana-led Pakistan Women are still searching for their first win in the competition, having lost two matches on the trot - one against Bangladesh Women, followed by an 88-run defeat at the hands of India Women. But on Wednesday, as the two skippers took the field, Sana won the toss and elected to bowl first to everyone’s surprise.
Georgia Wareham, Megan Schutt return as Australia Women bat first vs PAK Women
While the Pakistan Women confirmed a change into the side, Australia Women too named a couple of changes. The Fatima Sana-led side will see Aliya Riaz walk out in place of Eyman Fatima, Australia Women will see Georgia Wareham and Megan Schutt return in place of darcie brown and Sophie Molineux. “Was looking to have a bat anyway. Two changes: Wareham and Schutt back in. Darcie Brown and Molineux out. We knew Soph was going to have to be managed throughout the tournament,” Healy said.
