Former New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has rejoined his national team after seven months for the upcoming three-match ODI series at home against England. Williamson played his last international game against India in the Champions Trophy 2025 final against India on March 9, 2025. Following that contest, he didn’t appear in New Zealand colours but played for Middlesex in the County Championship and London Spirit in The Hundred 2025. He played his last competitive match for Spirit in The Hundred 2025 on August 25. Before the ODI series, New Zealand will clash against England in the three-match T20I series but Williamson wasn’t picked up in the squad as he was recovering from a medical issue.

As the first ODI is just days away, the Kiwi veteran appeared in an interview with New Zealand Cricket and revealed his feeling on being back in the set-up. "It's nice to be back amongst the group. There's been quite a bit of change since the last time I was here, so it's nice to meet the new coach and some new players as well. And I'm looking forward to the start of the series," remarked Kane Williamson.

Kane Williamson is committed to international cricket

Despite being away from international cricket for more than seven months, Williamson has disclosed his intention to prioritise international cricket. "It's just an ongoing communication with New Zealand Cricket and with Rob, and I'm grateful for that. It's a lot about the balance, with family and time away, but also the delicate balance of being a part of this team that I've really loved and enjoyed for such a long period of time," added the star Kiwi player.

Discussing Williamson’s performance for New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025, he scored 200 runs with a hundred and one fifty in five matches. In the upcoming assignment against England, he will be expected to dominate the visitors’ bowling attack to help New Zealand claim victory in the series.
