Jofra Archer, the England fast bowler, has signed a one-year contract extension with Sussex in County cricket for the upcoming 2026 season, where he made a name for himself before bursting onto the international scene. The 30-year-old is currently a part of the England cricket team for the Ashes 2025-26 down under against Australia after recovering from a lot of career-threatening injuries for the better part of the last decade.
Notably, Jofra Archer has been a part of Sussex right through his career in the County Championship, taking 135 wickets at an average of 23.30 in 30 matches since debuting for them in 2016. He has made 15 appearances for England in Test cricket after playing his first match for them in the Ashes 2019, picking up 51 wickets at an average of 30.62 with his battle against Australia’s premier batter Steve Smith.
I have always felt at home here and it was another easy decision to stay here for a further year: Jofra Archer
In his interview with the official website of the club, Jofra Archer remarked, “I'm delighted to continue my journey with Sussex. Since my debut in 2016, I have always felt at home here and it was another easy decision to stay here for a further year.” With him already being a major part of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR), getting retained for the 2026 season, it will be interesting to see how much time he will be able to give to Sussex next year.
This situation must also be kept a close eye on amid the international and The Hundred commitments for Jofra Archer with England and Southern Brave respectively as well. Regardless, it is great to see one of the best fast bowlers in his generation committing to cricket at the top level for the better part of next one year, which could prove to be pivotal not just for him but his respective teams across the board.
