Salman Agha, the captain of Pakistan, has his fitness come into question ahead of the highly anticipated Group A encounter in the Asia Cup 2025 against arch-rivals India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in just three days time. It is understood that the 31-year-old didn’t train on Wednesday, September 10, at the ICC Academy in Dubai unlike the rest of his teammates, who sweat it out in the field before their tournament opener against Oman tomorrow.

As per the report published in Geo News, Salman Agha had a bandage on his neck after he had complained about experiencing a mild spasm. Since the Pakistan captain didn’t partake in the fitness drills, including warm-ups and football game at the ICC Academy in Dubai, there is a worry about whether he will be able to play versus India let alone Oman this weekend in the Asia Cup 2025.

PCB stated that Salman Agha didn't train as a precautionary measure

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s statement on the matter, the issue with Salman Agha is a minor one, which is why he didn’t train with his teammates as a precautionary measure. But, it is highly likely that the Pakistan captain will return to training ahead of their Asia Cup 2025 opener against Oman, with a hope of playing in the contest in just over a day’s time.

During the pre-tournament press conference, the 31-year-old was confident about his Pakistan’s chances in the tournament, talking about how the team is excited and looking forward to playing in it. He was quoted as saying, “I think we are playing good cricket, we started that a few months ago. Things are coming together, as a team we are playing good cricket and looking forward to this tournament and everyone is very excited.”

Moreover, Pakistan are yet to reach the final of the Asia Cup in T20I format after the completion of the two editions in 2016 and 2022.
