On Tuesday, September 2, Cricket Australia (CA) suffered a massive setback with their cricketing calendar set to get into full swing with white-ball series against New Zealand and India, followed by the five-match Ashes series. The men from Down Under are set to miss the services of Pat Cummins, who suffered a stress injury in his lower back.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Cricket Australia shared an update around the same while confirming his absence from the upcoming white-ball series against New Zealand and India. It is to be noted that Australia is set to tour New Zealand for three-match T20I series, followed by a white-ball series against India at home in October.

Pat Cummins to miss India series with lumbar bone stress in lower back

After undergoing recent scans, Australia’s red-ball captain - Pat Cummins was confirmed to be suffering from lumbar bone stress in his lower back. The injury comes as a setback as he will now sit out from the upcoming series and will also hamper his preparations for the highly-anticipated Ashes series.

"Cummins was rested from the recent T20 series against the West Indies and South Africa. Despite this planned de-load period, Cummins has experienced some ongoing lower back pain following the West Indies Test tour. Further investigation has identified a level of lumbar bone stress that will require further management over the coming months. Cummins won't be considered for the upcoming limited-overs series against India and will continue his rehabilitation plan with a return to bowling to be determined as part of his Ashes preparation,” the statement from Cricket Australia read.

It is to be noted that the Aussie all-rounder hasn’t played since the West Indies Test series. He missed the five-match T20I series against the Windies side and also sat out from the white-ball series against South Africa at home.
