Just days ago, veteran off-spinner and former India cricketer, Ravichandran Ashwin put down curtains on his Indian Premier League (IPL) career. The decision came as a shock amid the ongoing trade talks surrounding the all-rounder. While it came as a surprise for all, he then revealed that it was on his mind since long as he wants to explore more cricket.
Taking to X, the veteran cricketer wrote, “Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today .”
R Ashwin likely to sign deal in BBL; could become first India to play franchise T20 league
While the 38-year-old had cleared the air around his future to play more of franchise league cricket around the world, he later confirmed to have registered for the International League T20 (ILT20). But recent reports have revealed some shocking story. The former Indian spinner is also being approached by Cricket Australia's Big Bash League (BBL). Crizbuzz has reported that Todd Greenberg, Cricket Australia's CEO, is in talks with Ashwin.
"To get someone with Ashwin's credentials to come over here for the BBL will be great at so many levels. He's a champion cricketer who will bring a lot to the Big Bash and to our cricket summer," Greenberg said, as quoted by Cricbuzz. Notably, no Indian player has played the BBL so far and if Ashwin gets a team, he will become the first Indian to achieve this feat.
