Star wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant is currently out of action as he is recovering from the toe injury he suffered during the Test series in England in July. The left-hander was also not included in the Indian squad for the ongoing Test series against West Indies at home and is also missing from the squad for the upcoming white-ball series in Australia. However, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar said that Pant is likely to be available for the home Test series against South Africa in November and the fans are waiting for his return on the field.
However, it won’t be easy for Rishabh Pant to take on the field against South Africa after missing cricket for almost three months. As reported by the Times of India, the left-hander is likely to be seen playing in Ranji Trophy for Delhi ahead of the series against South Africa. The BCCI medical team is also assessing Pant’s injury right foot as the board don’t want to take any risk with him by allowing him to play prematurely. “As of now, there is a likelihood he could be cleared by Oct 10. An assessment is due this week. It has been a long recovery for him. The BCCI medical team doesn’t want to take any chances with him," a BCCI source was quoted as saying by TOI.
Rishabh Pant likely to be available for Ranji Trophy from October 25
In further reports, a top official from the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) told Times of India that Rishabh Pant is expected to join the Delhi team from October 25 for the Ranji Trophy. “Pant has said he should be available for the Ranji Trophy matches in Delhi from October 25. He has conveyed that it will be subject to fitness and clearance obtained from the BCCI medical team," a DDCA official said.
“Pant has not committed to any date when he can join the Delhi camp. He has requested to wait for clearance from the CoE. Playing the first-round Ranji Trophy match from October 15 would be very tight for him. If he is available, he is most likely to lead the team," the official further added.
