In a big development, former India and cricketer and the President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Roger Binny has reportedly stepped down from the role following his 70th birthday. It is to be noted that Binny, who turned 70 in July 2025, took over the reins as BCCI President after Sourav Ganguly stepped down from the position in October 2022.

While he continued in the role for almost two years in the position, but the recent introduction of the National Sports Bill, which was passed in the Parliament by the Government of India, Binny reportedly had to let go of the position. Rajeev Shukla takes over as BCCI Acting President: Reports

According to a report published by Dainik Jagran, Roger Binny has stepped down from the role of BCCI President following the latest Apex Council meeting. In his place, current Vice President, Rajeev Shukla is set to take over the position and will remain as the interim president till the next name is decided in the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).

But as BCCI serves as an independent body and follows its own constitution, the age limit of an office bearer remains 70 and thus Binny has to relieve from the position he had accepted in October 2022. Meanwhile, the BCCI and its affiliated state associations will continue to function under the existing constitution, framed in accordance with the Supreme Court-mandated Lodha Committee recommendations, until new legislation is introduced.
