With the escalating tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban, the recent air strikes in the Afghan province has left at least eight dead. Seeing the things aggravate, the Pakistan’s military regime in the Paktika province conducted air strikes which has left three of the Afghan cricketers’ dead. The confirmation came early on October 18 from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the ACB confirmed the death of its three cricketers while expressing grief. In a statement of condolence, the ACB stated, “The Afghanistan Cricket Board expresses its deepest sorrow and grief over the tragic martyrdom of the brave cricketers from Urgun District in Paktika Province, who were targeted this evening in a cowardly attack carried out y the Pakistani regime.”
"In this heartbreaking incident, three players (Kabeer, Sibghatullah and Haroon) alongside 5 other fellow countrymen from Urgun District were martyred, and seven others were injured," the ACB further said in a statement, while their identities. ACB further revealed that the cricketers had traveled to Sharana to participate in a friendly cricket match and were targeted in a gathering after their return to Urgun.
Rashid Khan reacts on tragic incident; condemns “barbaric” airstikes
Hours after the tragic accident which has left at least three cricketers lose their lives, the Afghanistan cricket team captain Rashid Khan condemned these attacks while calling them “barbaric”. “I am deeply saddened by the loss of civilian lives in the recent Pakistani aerial strikes on Afghanistan. A tragedy that claimed the lives of women, children, and aspiring young cricketers who dreamed of representing their nation on the world stage,” he began.
“It is absolutely immoral and barbaric to target civilian infrastructure. These unjust and unlawful actions represent a grave violation of human rights and must not go unnoticed,” he further added while extending support amidst these difficult times in the country.
