After the handshake row in India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 match, on Tuesday, September 16, former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Yousuf was embroiled in a new controversy after he went out loud, using derogatory remarks for Team India skipper Suryakumar Yadav. The former Pakistan batter, who was finest of his times, called the Indian batter “pig” on live television, raising several eyebrows.

However, his comments came after India’s seven-wicket win over Pakistan on Sunday, he faced backlash for his remarks. During the TV discussion, Yousuf appeared to have deliberately mispronounced Suryakumar Yadav’s name as “Suar Kumar” (pig), further alleging that India had influenced match referee Andy Pycroft to ensure no handshakes were offered at the toss. Even as the presenter tried to correct his pronunciation, Yousuf repeated the slur.

Abusing is very wrong and coming from a cricketer was total stupidness: Mohammad Yousuf

Hours later, former India cricketer and a World Cup winner, Madan Lal slammed the former Pakistan batter, stating that the comments only reflects his character. “Oh, see, that is the character of Pakistan. How can you abuse anybody? These are the only things they know and don’t know anything else. I can’t say anything more about that. Abusing is very wrong, and coming from a former cricketer, that was total stupidness.”

However, the comments might have come knowingly or unknowingly, the Pakistan cricketer took to X to issue an apology. “I didn’t mean any disrespect to any sportsman who plays for his country with passion and grace. But why were the Indian media and people praising Irfan Pathan when he said that Shahid Khan Afridi was barking like a dog? Shouldn’t that have been rejected by everyone who talks about dignity and respect?” Yousuf wrote.
