Star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer got support from Bollywood industry after his snub from the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2025. Popular actor Varun Dhawan shared a story in favour of the right-handed batsman a day after the announcement of the Indian squad for the upcoming tournament. Notably, Iyer has been in great form in recent times and was also among the leading run scorers in IPL 2025. Despite this, he was ignored by the selector for the Asia Cup 2025 and didn’t even get a place in the reserve players list.
After the squad was announced, there has been a lot of debate regarding Shreyas Iyer’s snub from the 15-men line-up. Iyer was a crucial performer in the ODI World Cup 2023 and was top run-scorer for India in the Champions Trophy 2025. He also led from the front as captain of Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 amassing 604 runs from 17 matches at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07.
Varun Dhawan shared Instagram story in support of Shreyas Iyer
After Shreyas Iyer’s snub, Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan shared a fan-made video on his Instagram where Shreyas Iyer was talking about the ups and downs of his career and how he wasn’t picked in the India team several times despite performing well. However, talking about Iyer’s absence from the Asia Cup squad, Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that there was no one in the squad whom he could replace.

“With regards to Shreyas, I mean, you need to tell him who he can replace. No fault of his, nor is it ours. It's just that we have to pick 15 at the moment, he'll have to wait for his chance,” Agarkar said during the Asia Cup squad announcement press conference.
