With the 2025 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) underway in the islands, in match number nine of the tournament, a bizarre fielding effort denied a boundary to Amazon Warriors. The match, which was played between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Antigua and Barbuda Falcons at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on August 22, saw the home side win the toss and elect to bat first.
On the back of 54-ball 82 from Shai Hope, followed by an unbeaten 26-ball 65 from Shimron Hetmyer and an unbeaten 25 from Romario Shepherd, the Imran Tahir-led side posted 211 in their stipulated 20 overs. Shamar Springer was brought into the attack to bowl the final over, which saw him concede 25 runs.
Fabian Allen’s brilliant save denies six to Romario Shepherd; video goes viral
Coming out to bowl the first delivery of the final over, Shepherd smashed Shamar for a toss over the ground, but Fabien Allen’s stunning effort denied him a maximum. Allen leapt full length and caught the ball at long-off. But before he could land on the boundary rope, Allen flung the ball back in the air, saving four runs. While this brilliant acrobatic save from the West Indies international caught several eyeballs, the delivery was eventually declared a no-ball.

Romario Shepherd thereafter went on to hit Shamar Springer for two sixes and two fours and added 25 runs in the penultimate over of the innings. Thereafter, on the back of skipper Imran Tahir’s five-fer (5/21), the Guyana Amazon Warriors went on to restrict the Antigua side to 128 in 15.2 overs and registered a comfortable 83-run win.
Now with two wins in as many games, the Imran Tahir-led side are placed second in the CPL 2025 standings and will next take on the Saint Lucia Kings on Tuesday, August 26 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia. On the other hand, the top-placed Antigua and Barbuda Falcons will next lock horns with St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
