The Indian cricket team has regrouped ahead of the T20I series after going down in the ODI series against Australia by 1-2 margin last week. The Shubman Gill-led Team India lost the three-match ODI series after going down in the first two ODIs by seven wickets (via DLS method) and the two wickets respectively. While the Men in Blue registered a consolation win in the third ODI, they suffered a massive blow in Shreyas Iyer’s near-fatal injury.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did share a medical update on Iyer’s injury on Monday, October 27 confirming, “ Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well ”, later in the day, reports revealed that he is out of intensive care and recovering.

Speaking ahead of the first T20I on Tuesday, October 28, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was also asked about Shreyas Iyer’s injury. Addressing the pre-match press conference, Suryakumar Yadav said, "The first day, when I got to know that he was injured, I called him. I got to know that he did not have his phone. So, I called the physio and he told me that he was stable.”

“On day one you cannot be sure of anything. But I have been talking to him over the last two days and he has been replying on phone. If he is replying, it means that he is stable. He is looking good, the doctors are with him. But he will be under supervision for the next few days. But he has been replying, so that is good," Suryakumar Yadav further added, bringing in a sigh of relief.
