With the Asia Cup 2025 nearing its penultimate stage, in the third match of the Super Four stage, which was played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, was once again marred with several controversies. In Pakistan’s five-wicket win over Sri Lanka at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, September 23, players from both sides also were surrounded by heated on-field moments.

Among many was Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga and Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed. The two engaged in some tensed moments on the field as they opted to mimic each other’s celebrations after picking key wickets. While it was Abrar who started it all, bringing Hasaranga's usual celebration after dismissing the Sri Lanka all-rounder, the latter too got into the moment and brought in Abrar's celebration after picking Saim Ayub’s wicket.

However, all the action was limited to the field as the duo surprising shared a hug, showing camaraderie and leaving aside the grudges. In videos going viral on social media, Hasaranga could be seen reaching out to Abrar Ahmed during the customary handshakes post match. As the two reached each other, they embraced and laughed out on their on-field antics.

Speaking of the match, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and elected to bowl first. As a result, Sri Lanka came out to bat first which saw them score 133 runs in their stipulated over, courtesy a 50 off 44 balls from Kamindu Mendis. In reply, Pakistan chased the total with ease in just 18 overs, courtesy unbeaten knocks from Hussain Talat (32*) and Mohammad Nawaz (38*), keeping their campaign still alive.

On the other hand, a defeat for Sri Lanka have pushed them on the brink of elimination, they will hope to get a win to their name when they lock horns with India on Friday, September 26 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
