On Sunday, September 14, the Indian cricket team registered a comfortable seven-wicket win over Pakistan in their Group A match of Asia Cup 2025, played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. While it was more than just a game of cricket with several voicing their opinions, urging the Indian team to boycott the match as a part of protest over Pahalgam terror attacks.
However, at the end, the victory must have come in India’s favour, the Indian skipper along with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) dedicated it to the victims of the terror attacks. “We stand by the victims of the families of Pahalgam terror attack. We express our solidarity. We want to dedicate today's win to all our Armed Forces who showed a lot of bravery. Hope they continue to inspire us all and we give them more reasons on the ground whenever we get an opportunity to make them smile,” the Indian captain said at the post-match presentation.
After Suryakumar Yadav, Gautam Gambhir also dedicates win to Pahalgam victims
Not only this, the Indian team head coach, Gautam Gambhir in his post-match interaction with the broadcasters, spoke of the victory. The former Indian cricketer also spoke on the lines of Suryakumar Yadav as he said, “Good win. There is still a lot of cricket left in this tournament. This match was important as we wanted to show solidarity with the victims and families and what they went through during that Pahalgam attack.”
“More importantly, we want to thank the Indian Army for their successful Operation Sindoor. We will try to make our country proud and happy,” the 43-year-old further added. Notably, this was the first India versus Pakistan game after the terror attacks, which took place in April this year. While the Indian government along with the armed forces gave a befitting reply in Operation Sindoor, this was the first response of the cricket team amid massive unrest.
