Para Lifter Jhandu Kumar Wins India's First Medal At CWG 2026

India's first medal at the Glasgow Games was secured by para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar, who brought home a bronze in the men's heavyweight category. The 29-year-old from Bihar made history for India after a series of near misses on the opening day.

His impressive performance not only earned him a spot on the podium but also placed India on the Commonwealth Games medal table, where the nation currently sits in ninth place with that single bronze. Meanwhile, boxer Lovlina Borgohain is also in line for a medal, having made it directly to the women's 75kg semifinals, although it hasn't been officially counted in the medal tally just yet.

India Eye Strong Performances on Day 4

India is all set to capitalize on their good beginning by delivering some great performances in different sports. Headline act will be Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu who takes center stage later in the day, targeting a historic third consecutive Commonwealth title, with India also in prime position to challenge for two further medals across other weight categories.

India’ journey today will see Rishikanta Singh Chanambam right in the thick of the title race in the men's 60kg final, currently tied at the top of the leaderboard alongside Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq Kasdan after executing a brilliant 121kg snatch. In Lawn Tennis India suffered a heartbreak as they suffered a defeat against Namibia, though the team can still qualify for the semifinals in Women's Pairs.
