In a recent video, shared by the RCB social media titled โFrom a classic opener to a ruthless finisher's, RCB player Romario Shepherd opened up on his life experiences while growing up as a child in Linden. The 32-year player shared how growing up he did not have a lot of privileges normal kids would have.
โAs a kid growing up, all I knew was to accept what life was giving to me at that time. For instance, the phone, the internet that normal kids have today, we didn't have that.โ
He shared that he didn't have a phone or internet and he learnt to accept life as it was during that time. Growing up with a brother, Shepherd said on the video that they lived in a three bedroom house and he would sleep in the middle room because he would be scared. He also touched upon the lack of proper infrastructure present while he was growing up as they didn't have proper roads or pathways and they would walk under the trees or travel by boat.

He also opened up on how he played cricket with a ball made with wood in a small yard and playing cricket for a living was out of the picture. It was when he was spotted by Julian Moore for the school team where he made 129 runs and he had hit forty fours, implying he initially looked for gaps to hit 4s only.
Shepherd on being nervous during IPL 2025 Finals
Shepherd admitted that he was extremely nervous before the IPL 2025 Finals.He said in the interview that Chris Gayle had talked to him in the hotel before the game and recalled Gayleโs advice to just play the game and be himself. Shepherd also revealed the finals to be the only time he remembered being nervous after the Under 15. He acknowledged the massive stakes of the final, noting that it tested his character more than just his skills, especially given the "years of heartbreak" associated with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise.
โLast year when we were in the finals, Chris Gayle came over. When we met him in the hotel, he was like just go out there and enjoy. I was nervous in the final, that was the first time I remember being nervous since U15. So when I bowled the bowl and it picked, it was an unbelievable moment,โ Shepherd added.
The RCB player also revealed how the nerves of the final caught him and even though he had nicked a ball while bowling he could believe it and called it an โunbelievable momentโ.
