He may not have been able to beat his fellow West Indian Jason Holder’s incredible T20I record of taking 4 wickets in as many deliveries, but he sure has picked up a hat trick and that too, in the premier contest in men’s cricket: the World Cup. Romario Shepherd, ladies and gentlemen, has done something so special and truth be told, spectacular that, if Sir Ian Bishop would’ve been behind the mic, he’d have yelled with much excitement and rich aplomb: “ Romario Shepherd… remember the name!” And that sound would’ve been just about right as it’s the familiar Eden Gardens cricket ground in Calcutta.

Batting first, the West Indies showed both power and composure as they built a competitive total. After a steady beginning, their middle order cut loose, mixing clean hitting with smart placement to keep the scoreboard ticking. The innings gathered real momentum in the latter stages, ensuring Scotland were left with a challenging chase that required sustained aggression. Scotland began slowly but positively with the bat, showing intent and refusing to be overawed by the occasion. However, the turning point arrived when a West Indies bowler produced a magical over, claiming a brilliant hat-trick.

Three wickets in three balls completely changed the complexion of the contest, draining the momentum from the Scottish chase and lifting the energy of the West Indies side.

Each of the 3 wickets that he picked on the bounce were key and essential to Windies’ maiden win in the current World Cup. How and why? Just look at the names-

Davidson, Leask and Sharif! From there, the result was never in doubt. Tight bowling and sharp fielding closed the door on any recovery, sealing a deserved win. Beyond the points, the hat-trick sent a strong message: West Indies have arrived at the tournament with confidence, flair, and match-winning firepower.
